Step to the Plate—Register to Donate is designed to increase education surrounding the importance of organ donation among fans attending professional baseball games. In 2009, Astellas, in partnership with Donate Life America®, is hosting organ donation education events at 10 Minor League Baseball (MiLB) and 2 Major League Baseball (MLB) games.
During each game, events will include a first pitch by a local transplant recipient, an on-field ceremony to recognize the efforts of transplant professionals and volunteers, between-innings contests, and public service announcements about the importance of organ donation. Donate Life-staffed tables will be set up throughout each stadium to provide fans with educational materials and the opportunity to join their state organ donor registry.
